Tap Root Genealogy was founded February of 2022 days after becoming an IAP certified professional genealogist. I do genealogical research part time on evenings and weekends. My home office is located in Elkton Maryland, the county seat of Cecil County. The original section of the home was built in 1940. It was used as a wedding chapel when it was built (see the photo gallery for a picture of a post card featuring my house). Elkton was once the marriage capital of the east in 1913 when neighboring Delaware passed legislation that required a waiting period (24 Hours for residents and 96 hours for non-residents) to wed after obtaining your license. Maryland become the only state in the Mid-Atlantic where one could have a "Hasty Marraige". Elkton was the first stop on the rail line in Maryland from the North East. In 1938 Maryland legislation was passed for a 48 hour waiting period. Elkton still still had some notoriety as an elopement destination. My home office is an addition built onto the original structure in the 1990's.
My Genealogy Background
I began researching my personal genealogy in 2011. My parents were divorced when I was young and I did not have much contact with my father's family. My desire to know more about my paternal line fueled my passion for genealogical research that has grown into a hobby and now a profession. My family tree can be found publicly at https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/tree/26353076/family?cfpid=262273927020 containing over 60,000 souls.
